Paul Shorrock, Freelance Illustrator
Born in Lancashire in 1962, I graduated in 1984 as a Bachelor of Arts
with first class honours in Graphic Design (Illustration) from Liverpool
Polytechnic. Since then I have pursued a career in Illustration. For the
first few years I supplemented my freelance income by working as a studio
assistant to established Illustrators George Hardie and Bush Hollyhead
at NTA studios. I think I learnt more from them than from my degree course.
In the early '90s I began to concentrate on a collage technique, using
a photocopier and scalpel. The job of cutting and pasting became much
easier in 1995 when I bought a Macintosh computer. I took to the digital
medium like a duck to water and produced my first published digital Illustration
within a week of taking the Mac out of the box. Since then my love-affair
with Photoshop has taken me from versions 2.5.1 to CS2, and from 20MB
of RAM to 6GB and counting. In the last two yers I have also starting producing Rich Pictures
which are akin to a business report in pictorial form. For reasons of
client confidentiality I am prevented from showing more examples here. They
are big (A0 sized) and complicated and take around a month to complete on average.
In
August 2004 I moved back to Lancashire and I'm busier than ever. With fast broadband I can now
turn jobs around even more quickly than before. What are you waiting for?
